LifeLink is a prototype project exploring how we might use mobile technology to help people in urban environments connect with nature to improve health, well-being, and enjoyment of green spaces. The science is clear that a walk in the park can improve mood, concentration, and even help the body heal faster. We have also been excited about the clear rise in our ability to use technology to facilitate behavior change for those in need. SERVICE: Biomimicry Goggles
We have often dreamed of exploring the outdoor world with a set of 'biomimicry goggles' that would tell us all about the functions, behaviors, and structures we see around us, and give us some leading ideas for innovations - so we made one. It is a service that we offer to clients or individuals who wish to have photographic inspiration in action. These can be used as cards, presentations, or wall hangings (we do all of them). PROJECT: Ecosystem Service Nets
As part of our ongoing efforts in Urban Planning and Resilience we have been working in co-ordination with Biomimicry New England to understand the potential for aerial urban nets that provide ecosystem services. Inspired by the work of Janet Echelman we have helped create award winning submissions to the MIT Climate Co-Lab, and have continued to work on design and development of these ecosystem service providers. PROJECT: Silk Smithing
LikoLab is pioneering the platform technology of making with molecular scale biomaterials - starting with silk protein. The next generation of makers will be able to design at every scale, from the nanometer on up. We are working to build the tools, techniques, and know-how to enable this technology to become as relevant as blacksmiths were in pre-industrial towns. View the video here.

PROJECT: Marine Sensor Systems
Likolab is dedicated to creating interactions that have impact. Likolab is exploring what it means to create artificial intelligence that is appropriate to place and purpose. Our initial efforts have focused around creating sensor platforms for long-term observational ecology and design insight. These robotic/AI platforms are designed to further blur the line between scientists and citizen scientists discovering and exploring our world.
